Monday's Adventure

Sean's son Anselm gave us a Premier ticket for a Day at the Races, and the year has whizzed by and he realised we'd better use it before the season closes.  We decided to go to Bath.  We met up on the train, but he was worried about his daughter who is unwell, and he wondered if he should get on another train to go and see her instead.  He talked it over with his son who advised him not to do that but to go to the Races instead.

The Great Western Train journey was a nightmare.  We ended up in a very brightly lit entertainment carriage with a TV on the back of every seat.  It was crowded and airless.  I was in an evil mood when we eventually got to Bath.  We got into a Taxi and when we got to the hotel, they had no record of our reservation, which made me even more cross.  They allocated us a room but I wanted a drink before we went to it, so we went to the bar and had a lovely lime and soda, which revived my spirits.  It was then that I said to Sean "I'm sure you told me we were going to the Holiday Inn".  He looked unsure, so we phoned them.  Yes, indeed, they had a reservation for us.  We were in the wrong hotel!  As we hadn't been up to the room, they gave Sean his money back and called us a taxi and we went to the Holiday Inn.

After breakfast on Monday, we went back to the room where I got back into bed to build up some energy for the Races in the afternoon. Sean made some phone calls, then we went off to the Races.  In his worry about his daughter's health, he had forgotten the tickets so his secretary faxed them up.  He showed them to the ladies in the ticket office and not only did they allow us in, they kindly fixed Sean's ticket to his buttonhole.  He's got charm, that man!

We placed small bets with the bookmaker on Winners only.  We had an extraordinary streak of beginners luck - we picked 5 winners out of 7 races.  In total we won £54, which we divided between the two of us so we each got £27.  We had our little flutter for fun, but we weren't there for gambling.  It was just for fun and we had a great time.

By the time we got to London, I could barely speak.  On Tuesday I could barely cope with the kids and on Wednesday was flat out in bed with an M.E sore throat, swollen glands, headache, aching jelly muscles and feeling far too unwell to get up.  I managed to brush my teeth but not to bath.  Still feel very spaced out.  My lungs are clear and expanding normally but the air doesn't seem to be doing me any good.  It will have to be another day in bed tomorrow.

Still, it was worth it.

hope you are getting better…sore throat is not a lot of fun its just uncomfortable and difficult to swallow.

usually, i would take the Nim Jiom Cough Syrup which has a thick consistency formulation. it coats the throat and includes herbs that are particularly good for that application.

i hope it works on you as well.
