Bournemouth Birthday Bash

In July, my mother Josie turns 75. Also in July, her sister Mary turns 80. So we all trooped off to Bournemouth for a combined family only celebration last Saturday 26 June. It was a lovely summery day, and the party was held at the retirement complex where Mary lives. We had use of the Residents Lounge and the gorgeous gardens.

We took two taxis and a train to get to Sean's, and he drove Wendy, Josie and me to Southbourne where we stayed in Bed and Breakfast accommodation. It was just around the corner from the party venue. Caelyn, Nigel, Wendy and Teresa Jayne stayed in another one near by. Josie had the forethought to plan some amusements for Wendy during the journey, so she was good as gold. It took so long because we went on the quieter roads rather than the motorways, and we stopped regularly for Wendy to run around, as you can't expect a 4 year old to sit still indefinitely.

It was here that Wendy told us that the job of a Princess is to be stolen by a scary monster and be rescued by a handsome prince and live happily ever after. Someone should tell Princess Anne!

Josie and Mary singing about their Favourite Things

Words:
Botox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Cadillacs and cataracts, hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favourite things.

When the pipes leak, When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favourite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favourite things.

Back pain, confused brains and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favourite things.

When the joints ache, When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Then Mary sang a song in Latin.

Journey Home
We had frequent stops of the way back too. Michelle travelled with Caelyn, Nigel and Teresa and they went on the motorways and got back long before we did. But it was a pleasant journey and we were happy, if tired.

Wendy had Sean playing with her when we stopped at Midhurst for water, strawberries and ice cream.

Its always good to smell the flowers with a friend

We stopped here too, and there was plenty of place for her to run around.

Sean dropped us off at the railway station, and we got the train home.

Thinking of travel, we had 3 taxi journeys, two train trips plus two car trips. No wonder we were all tired.

Today is Thursday, and I've only put this on the blog now because of having to rest up after the excitement. That is what M.E/CFS does - payback after the event. Its defining symptom is post exertional malaise, and even though I loved the party and the journey and had a wonderful time, I was hit with after effects. Still, they are wearing off now, thank God.
