Family News

What a week! There is lots of news, so I hope I remember it all.

Sue and Nigel
Nigel had his College Assessment today. He was assessed in 5 areas, using a scale of 1 to 5, 1 being excellent and 5 being dead loss. He got 3 x 1 and 2 x 2. Very well done, Nigel. I should say that he has achieved this in spite of being ill and feverish a lot of the time. He works so hard at his college work so he deserves the excellent grades he gets. Well done, Nigel.

I have sent in my first two Assignments. For the first one, I got 85% and for the second I got 90%. They are right that nothing succeeds like success, because I'm very motivated to work even harder at my studies.

Caelyn
Caelyn has had trouble with her teeth for years. Her jaw was broken in a childhood car accident and the place where teeth form was damaged. She has been having abscesses and lots of pain and her dentist hasn't done anything about it. She was in a great deal of pain today so they gave her an emergency appointment with another partner in the practice. He took x-rays and compared them with the last lot taken in 2004, which show exactly the same problem. Then he looked at the long list of appointments for check-ups she has attended and he wasn't happy to see how long the problem has been going on with no attempt at treatment. He has transferred her to his panel. He said today his first priority was to get her pain free, and he did, by means of one filling and a temporary filling in an infected tooth which he packed with antibiotic. She has to have several hours more treatment, but she feels confident that he is taking her dental problems seriously, and she is very relieved. He was very careful not to criticise his partner, but I suspect words will be exchanged in private.

Michelle
Michelle is very tired. She has been working for 18 months or so without a holiday. When she worked in Norfolk, she and her long term boyfriend broke up after 5 years together. She came home and got a job in a local company that she had wanted to work at for ages, but it was hard-sell Call Centre work, and she hated it. I couldn't think of a more stressful job! She was pleased to get the job she now has, and she worked her notice at the other company. She hasn't worked in her new job for long enough to qualify for holiday leave, and she is emotionally tired and drained. She has been studying on top of all that, as well as helping her current boyfriend Richard through bereavement. She needs prayer.

Richard
Richard is bereaved and there are always zillions of odd emotions involved in the grieving process. At the moment he feels hyped up and unable to relax or sleep properly. Poor Richard! It is a difficult thing to go through. He is trying so hard to cope but he doesn't understand why his usual coping mechanisms aren't working. I told him there are no hard and fast rules and that he can expect a lot of conflicting and confusing emotions. It would have been better had a longer period of compassionate leave been possible, but it wasn't. He had only just started a new job too, which is stressful on its own, then he had to take compassionate leave when he had only been there for a couple of weeks. Bereavement never occurs when it is convenient.

Woozle
Woozle loves Nursery School, and goes for two mornings a week. She is having a terrible time cutting her eye teeth, and was crying a lot today. She was holding her cheek and ear and saying "ow" ow". She didn't even want her mother's breast, nor would she let them give her any pain reliever - she didn't want anything near her mouth. She has had loads of typical 'teething' dirty nappies, and is so unlike her normal self, poor little thing! Seeing her suffer like that is heartbreaking. Here she is at 20 months, listening to music through earphones.

Sean
Sean is busily getting his house ready and making plans for Paul's visit. That man is such a darling. My other brother Stephen once said that Sean is a man of integrity and honour and he ought to be declared a National Treasure, and I agree. You won't find a better man anywhere, and I am so lucky to be his unlawful wife.

Josie
Josie has a chest cold and really doesn't feel well, so for once in her life she is going to be sensible and look after herself so she can get over it before brother Paul comes on Saturday. The weather forecast predicts cold, wet, windy weather this weekend so she really must take a bit of care now.

Paul and his son Nicolas
Paul and Nicolas arrive at Heathrow early on Saturday morning. They plan to see a bit of England and meet the relatives until Thursday. On Friday, Nicolas joins his tour group to tour Europe and Paul flies back to South Africa. On Remembrance Sunday we will visit Oxford where Sean studied and his nephew Patrick will join us. He is at New College and much the same age as Nicolas so we hope the two lads will enjoy each other's company.

I said there was a lot of news and I could have written a lot more!
