Poor Nigel went back to Dover to get his tools then he set about fixing it. The aluminium screws had become brittle with age and had snapped. He drilled new holes and put brass screws in and said that the repair would be temporary, but that I would have to get a new bed. The original trouble was that the whole bed is just held together with dowels - far too flimsy to support a heavy wooden frame. What IS it with manufacturers thesedays? Have they no pride in their craftsmanship? It wasn't a cheap bed either. I really had expected better quality than that. To look at it the bed seems sturdy but the hidden details were done on the cheap. They "spoiled the ship for a ha'porth of tar'!
