Wendy's Milestones

Wendy has changed a great deal in the past two weeks.
She has discovered her toes and enjoys playing with them.
She is laughing out loud more than she did, and she is much more fascinated by toys than she used to be.  She will play happily with a toy and concentrate on it, gurgling and giggling, for 10 to 15 minutes at a time, which I think is extraordinary for such a young baby.  She is still only 17 weeks.

She is interested in the world around her and this causes a bit of a problem when she is feeding.  After she has had a few swigs and her thirst is slaked, she can be distracted by anything.  If the cat walks by, she will stop and look at the cat, leaving Caelyn spraying or dripping milk everywhere.  From that point on, it is a couple of swigs them a look around to see what else is going on that she might be missing.

She also seems to have more muscle tone and she is kicking and waving her arms about more than she used to.  When sitting on someone’s lap, she pushes with her feet to raise herself into a standing position.  She bears all her own weight too, just using the adults’ hands for balancing.  She is making early crawling movements too, and Caelyn was worried that she was going backwards so I told her that most babies go backwards to start off with.  I think crawling is very important and Caelyn should encourage it.  I say that because Wendy so badly wants to stand and walk.  If she misses the crawling stage the parts of her brain that she will need to learn to read with won’t be properly developed.

She is an absolute delight of a child.
