Criona and Sophia’s story is further down this page.
I am copying my own reaction to the story here:
I was heartbroken to read her terrible and tragic story.
It should never have happened; certainly not in a first world
democratic country. What was done to Sophia and Criona belongs more in
a Stalinist regime. It was appalling and disgusting and everything
decent in me is outraged by what happened.
To be so wickedly and callously abused by the very people she turned
to for help is a stomach-churning betrayal. Not only that, but those
people have taken serious oaths to help and not harm. It is the most
basic and fundamental tenet of the healing professions. The guiding
principle. Those who behave like that cannot truthfully be said to
have any sort of decent ethical and moral principles.
Not too long ago, the first thing any nurse or doctor learned, long
before they got anywhere near a patient was 'Primum Non Nocere' or
'First, do no Harm'.
It is high time that was reintroduced to the curriculum.
