Nigel is an excellent father. He plays with her, reads to her, comforts her and doesn't shy away from the yukkier side of parenting. He is firm with her and won't take any of her nonsense, such as when she screams because she can't have her own way but he is always gentle and never unkind. His love for her shines so beautifully. It amazes me because his own father was hardly a good role model so I wonder where he learned how to be a great Dad.
I always look at male parenting styles as my stepfather was most certainly an extremely undesirable role model and my daughters father was quite uninvolved.
Nigel is a real success story. And Michelle's boyfriend Richard is very good with Wendy too, and my dear Sean is dependable as a rock. He would go to hell and back for my children. The revelation that some men make wonderful fathers has astonished and healed me. It was so foreign a concept to me that I never even daydreamed about a man being a truly good parent. This growing realisation has been very good for me and for my girls.
