When babies are little, they think that if they can't see something, it isn't there, which is why Peek-a-Boo is so much fun when they are babies. Tonight I had a pink hair elastic in my hand. I put my hand behind my back then brought it out again covered with my other hand. Wendy knew in a flash that the hair elastic was in my hand even though she could not see it. She picked up the hand I was covering it with and grabbed the elastic with great triumph.
This achievement and the problem-solving skill are remarkable in a child this young.
Her problem-solving skills in general are very advanced.
She is charming, curious and engaging. She loves interacting with people and copying them. She plays the clown to make people laugh and she teases by catching your eye, giggling then doing something she knows she isn't supposed to do. She delights in getting a response from people as they react to something she has done. I've thought for ages that she is left handed and I'm even more sure of that now. If you hold something out to her she takes it with her left hand. If you offer it in her right side, she takes it with the right hand then transfers it to her left hand to give it back.
She is a bright little button and in some ways that's scary. Such an inquisitive, quick mind that we have to nurture and cultivate and stimulate and guide ethically and morally to teach her to be all she can be and to enjoy the buzz of learning.
It is a grave responsibility and we must not fail her.
