The first photos of 2007

Many New Year celebrations were called off because of storms and gale force winds, but there were a few fireworks in Folkestone. Brakkie hates them and he was standing at the window barking at the noise. We had BBC1 on to see the New Year Countdown on Big Ben. There was a magnificent display of fireworks in London that was televised and we were very impressed.

We don't feel hopeful for the New Year. Politics are in a mess with Tony Blair due to step down sometime. An election is coming up soon but it is impossible to decide who to vote for. I couldn't vote for New Labour because the equivalent of one new regulation an hour has come out of Whitehall since they took power and it shows itself in a million nannyish interferences in day to day life. They are like mosquitoes with a mission! People get sent to jail for not paying Council Tax at such an inflated rate that those on fixed incomes have no means of paying it, but people don't get jailed for mugging or burglary. They get 'community service' instead. Violent criminals on early release from prison are subject to 'close supervision' which in effect means 30 min a week spent with a probation officer. Labour have wrecked the Health Service and Education and they blithely ignore the wishes of the ordinary citizens. They really need to be voted out! But who do we vote for? The Lib Dems don't know what they stand for themselves so its not surprising that nobody else knows what they stand for either. The Conservatives under David Cameron just seem wishy-washy. Voting BNP is unthinkable.

I'll probably end up voting for the only crowd who make any sort of sense - the Monster Raving Loony Party!
