Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday

Yesterday was Shrove Tuesday.  I had slept over at Caelyn and Nigel’s house and when they brought me back home, Caelyn decided to make pancakes to celebrate her last Shrove Tuesday before embarking on parenthood.  They turned out very well, and we all enjoyed them.

Michelle has decided to give up television for Lent, as it is something she really enjoys and will miss.  She intends to use that time in bible reading, prayer, exercise and the like.  Sean gives up butter, alcohol, coffee and cheese every Lent.  I am giving up tea.  That will be really hard for me.  I feel like a cuppa right now, but as it is after midnight, I can’t.  Not until Laetare Sunday.  I already miss it, which only goes to show how much I need to give it up for a while.

Why bother?  Because we get used to easy living; a life of complacency.  We need to “return to the wilderness” for 40 days, to cut out dross in our lives in order to return to our First Love.  It will be tough, but so is anything worthwhile.  All I can do is my best, and trust God for the required perseverance to change as He wishes.
