Pregnancy News

Caelyn had a scan yesterday morning, then saw the Consultant.

The placenta is getting "tired" so they will induce labour if Wendy hasn't been born by 11 March.  They see no reason why she shouldn't be born naturally, which is good news as they were thinking a Caesarian might be needed.  The long and the short of it is that Wendy is small, but well.  The amniotic fluid, which had been leaking, has risen to 10 oz and the doctors are pleased with that. Wendy is expected to weigh about 5 to 5.5 pounds.

This is odd, because my family and I are tall, and her father is tall.  Nigel's family is very petite, but babies usually would be on the large side with so many "large" genes floating around.  Caelyn is 6'2", so why she is having a small baby is beyond me.

Another thing that is odd is that her blood group is definitely O NEG.  I am O Pos, and I am certain her father is also. He was tested as a matter of routine when he did his National Service.  Also, when Caelyn was in Intensive Care after an accident, she was definitely transfused with blood marked "O POS".  I remember it clearly, and I remember getting the account for 4 units of O POS Whole Blood.  So how come she is definitely O NEG now?  If she was NEG and had a wrong transfusion of POS blood after the accident, she ought to have antibodies.  But the tests, which have been repeated several times, show no antibodies at all.  She also has had at least three jabs against Rubella, but she shows no antibodies to that either.

All this bears out what I have been saying for years - that if there is such an odd situation that you couldn't even dream it up, there is my youngest, right in the middle of it.  This is the kid who caused a commotion by going missing from school.  They eventually had to contact the Police – who found her hiding out – in the Police Station!!  It could only happen to her!!
